Klondike AR Filters

During my time at The VIA Agency, I had the exciting opportunity to work on a project that combined augmented reality (AR) with creative storytelling for Klondike Bar. Our team developed three immersive Instagram AR filters, each offering a unique and adventurous experience for users, all centered around the theme of "snatching" a Klondike Bar from various mythical creatures.

The Concept

The goal was to create engaging AR experiences that captured the playful spirit of Klondike Bar. We designed three distinct filters, each featuring a different scenario where users could virtually "snatch" a Klondike Bar:

  1. From a Giant Eagle Nest: This filter placed users in a daring situation where they had to snatch a Klondike Bar from a giant eagle’s nest, high in the treetops.
  2. From a Giant Yeti Monster: In this experience, users encountered a massive yeti monster, adding an element of thrill as they tried to grab the Klondike Bar.
  3. From a Dinosaur: This filter transported users back to the prehistoric era, challenging them to snatch a Klondike Bar from a fearsome dinosaur.

Bringing the Project to Life

To kick off the campaign, we also created a vibrant mural located in Brooklyn, which served as both a visual anchor and a promotional piece for the campaign. The mural depicted the same mythical creatures featured in the AR filters, providing a cohesive and immersive experience for users.

How It Worked

Users could access the AR filters through Instagram by scanning a QR code on the mural or by visiting Klondike’s Instagram profile. Once activated, the filters used AR technology to overlay the fantastical scenes onto the real world, allowing users to interact with the creatures and attempt to snatch the Klondike Bar. The AR technology tracked users' movements and responses, creating a dynamic and engaging experience.

User Engagement and Impact

The Instagram AR filters quickly became popular, with users sharing their adventures on social media and tagging Klondike Bar. The campaign generated significant buzz and engagement, showcasing the brand’s playful and adventurous spirit. The mural in Brooklyn also attracted attention, drawing in both locals and tourists who were eager to participate in the AR experience.

Technological Innovation

Developing these AR filters required a blend of creative storytelling and advanced technology. We utilized Spark AR Studio to design and implement the filters, ensuring they were both visually appealing and interactive. The integration of AR elements with real-world interactions was a challenging yet rewarding aspect of the project, highlighting the potential of AR in creating memorable marketing experiences.

Results

The Klondike Bar AR filter project at The VIA Agency exemplifies how innovative technology can be used to create engaging and memorable brand experiences. Working on this project was a highlight of my career, allowing me to blend creativity with cutting-edge technology to bring joy and excitement to users. I’m proud of what we achieved and excited to see how AR continues to shape the future of interactive marketing.
